In a nutshell, it’s a battle game where you take on A.I. or other zombie-styled warriors in typical turn-based skirmishes. Similar in many ways to the confrontations you get with mythical beasts in most RPG’s, there’s various skills and powers to use and, as you progress through the game, these accumulate and you get more powerful.There appears to be a little or no tutorial or guidance in the game so you’re pretty much on your own to explore and learn about the game. There seems to be regular lotteries where you can win items, as well as a shop where you can, of course spend lots of real-life money for skills, weapons and protection.There are lots of places to explore: challenge (where you take on random players), training (to build levels, etc.), land grab (some kind of regular bonus involved, again no explanation), clan war (join with other players), arena (lets you win daily coins and xp) and battle (same as arena but more to win). Along the bottom of the main dashboard are various tabs: role (your profile), bag (your accumulated stuff), tasks, events, success (Papaya achievements) and shop.There’s good and bad elements to Zombie Wars. Firstly, the graphics are really good. Everything is really polished and looks great. There are animations and the whole game performs in a professional and slick manner. The problem, however, lies in the way the game is delivered. There is no explanation as to what you are doing or why. There’s no means to understand the benefits of one weapon over another, or how to make your zombies fight better. Unless you’re willing to buy credits immediately you’re at a massive disadvantage against other players, who just wipe you out. Everything just seems far too complex for what it is. You have little control over your fighter(s) once they get started and it seems to be mainly about building resources tycoon-style, which if you just splashed out a lot of money would save you the time.If you like the battle element of RPG’s you might enjoy this, as that is exactly what it is about. Besides this, the graphics are fun and lively but the remainder of the game is hugely frustrating and complex. This would be OK if there was some kind of tutorial, but there isn’t and often when you go looking for instructions you just find Chinese language. Zombie Wars is a good idea but it has been badly organised.I imagine some people will really get into this, but with little in terms of actual gameplay, I didn’t find it remotely addictive yet rather repetitive. Perhaps a strong point of the game is the social network behind it- Papaya, which if you have a lot of friends on there, might make the game more addictive and enjoyable.The graphics are very good. Rich colours, slick animations and action- it’s great. Which is why it’s such a shame the rest of the game lets it down.The sound effects, etc. are really good and suit the game well. However, the music is badly looped and becomes very annoying after a short period of time. One of its stand out features allows it to read the news stories aloud to you; including a shake phone to stop audible reading feature. Most articles are as snippets, however, you can jump to the full source version for full reading. And if you’re a news junkie you can set an alarm to wake to your news. Articles are cached for offline reading, you can add & remove channels, plus you can share them via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, email, and other Android apps.However, the excitement stops there as it does not have much customization and is very buggy erupting far too common “Force Close” error messages. One of the most disappointing aspects missing from the app is the ability to truly customize your channels. Sure you check and uncheck from the list of predefined news categories, and you can search a topic, but you cannot save any searched topics as channels or favorite them. Furthermore, when you search, the results does not come back with the wealth of articles you would find in Google News. For example, we always keep tabs on the terms “Android” and “Android Apps” for obviously reasons. Newshog returned less than ten articles on the former search term, none for the latter.The audible reading voice is the robotic flavor, something I personally care less for but it works when started properly. I found that if you scroll the article down a bit then tap the read button it wont Force Close… strange. Worse, if you experience a FC error while the app is reading a long story you’re stuck listening to its entirety unless you force a phone restart. The developer lists this feature as shake to pause, however, this is not the case. Shaking your phone stops the audible reading, and shaking again restarts reading from the beginning of the article. Sometimes a re-shake doesn’t start the reading at all, so it’s a crap shoot on when it does work.Though the app makes reading offline articles a breeze, it does so with some backlash. This content is downloaded to the phone’s internal memory storage versus SD card, it gets quite huge really fast, without an option to store it to SD card. What this means for the average user is that they’ll sudden have far less space for installing other apps & games and would not know how to identify the space hog nor remedy it. Tip: if you do find Newshog taking up megabytes by the tens and want to free up the space, head to your Settings > Manage applications > find Newshog > tap “Clear data”.Having a functional news reader is essential for some. If you consider the app for strictly what it is and allow it to deliver news to you in predefined channels (Top News, Sports, Business, Entertainment, etc.), then it is highly useful.The app walks you through a tutorial at first start up. Channels are articles are easy to navigate by swiping left or right and tap to delve further.This is a personal call, I could see this being used as infrequent as every other day onto being used multiple times daily.The interface is simple and formats articles for optimal reading on a mobile device. Did you know you can pinch to zoom in/out of the text?
